(i got a package from my grandmother – who lives across the country – sporting three oranges, two lemons, some garlic, a bag of cookies, a sausage, a large cheese: all locally produced, bought from the producer. oh!, and this: it’s a very moist short cake called enxovalhada or tarnished, from an old local recipe that demands the top should be covered with cinnamon and shredded almonds. it’s about 50 cm long and there is another one beneath.)
